Summertime Cocktails You can Make at Home

Due to Covid19, many of us have taking to celebrating the summertime in our back yards as opposed to our usual beaches or rooftop bars. However, we crave those tasty drinks! We have gathered a selection of delicious cocktails that you can make with ease in your own home.

Accra Classroom

Sea Breeze

Ingredients:

  • 50ml vodka
  • 100ml cranberry juice
  • 50ml grapefruit juice
  • ice
  • thin slice of lime

Method:

  • STEP 1: Half-fill a tall glass with ice then pour in the vodka, cranberry juice and grapefruit juice.
  • STEP 2: Stir gently until the outside of the glass feels cold, then garnish with the lime slice.

Strawberry Gin

Ingredients

  • 700ml bottle of gin (I like Gordon’s or Strettons)
  • 400g punnet of strawberries, sliced
  • 100g caster sugar

Method

  • STEP 1: Mix the gin with the strawberries and caster sugar in a large bowl and pour into a 1.5-litre sterilised Kilner jar.
  • STEP 2:  Store in the fridge and stir every two days for three weeks. Strain though coffee filters or muslin cloth to serve.

Blueberry Mojito

Ingredients

  • 100g blueberries
  • 3 lemons , chopped
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 mint sprigs , leaves picked
  • 350ml white rum
  • 600ml sparkling water

Method

  • STEP 1: Put the blueberries, lemons and sugar in a jug and muddle. Bruise the mint leaves and add them to the jug with lots of ice. Pour over the rum and sparkling water and stir together.

Pimm’s

Ingredients

  • 200ml Pimm’s No. 1
  • 600ml lemonade
  • mint sprigs, sliced cucumber, sliced orange and strawberries, to serve

Method

  • STEP 1: Fill a jug with ice and pour over the Pimm’s and lemonade. Give it a good stir then add the mint, cucumber and fruit.

Aperol Spritz

Ingredients

  • ice
  • 100ml Aperol
  • 150ml prosecco
  • soda, to top up

Method

  • STEP 1: Put a couple of cubes of ice into 2 glasses and add a 50 ml measure of Aperol to each. Divide the prosecco between the glasses and then top up with soda, if you like.

Woo Woo

Ingredients

  • 50ml vodka
  • 25ml peach schnapps
  • 100ml cranberry juice
  • few drops fresh lime juice
  • ice
  • wedge of lime

 

Method

  • STEP 1:  Fill a cocktail shaker with ice then add the vodka, peach schnapps, cranberry juice and a few drops of lime juice. Shake really well then strain into a tumbler with extra ice. Garnish with a wedge of lime.

Frosé

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle dry rosé
  • 300g strawberries , hulled and halved
  • 50g caster sugar
  • juice of 1 lemon

Method

  • STEP 1: Pour the bottle of rosé into a deep roasting tin and carefully put it in the freezer overnight.
  • STEP 2: The next day, mix the strawberries with the sugar and leave to sit for 30 mins until the strawberries begin to release their juices.
  • STEP 3: Blend the frozen rosé, strawberries, sugar and lemon juice together, then divide between glasses for the ultimate refreshing summer cocktail
